If you are craving a fabulous, mouth-watering Italian lunch or dinner, look no further than Carmelo's Ristorante Italiano located right here in West Vancouver (1448 Marine Drive - Ambleside).
Carmelo's has been a West Vancouver fixture for over twenty years, with Peter Oates having been the owner for the past decade.
With arguably the best pizza in West Vancovuer, the menu offers a wide variety of options including traditional pastas, seafood and protein entrees. If you are looking for a casual dining experience with exceptional food and service, drop by for lunch or dinner this Fall.
Below is the link to Carmelo's website where you can view the lunch and dinner menu, as well as view a video about the restaurant itself.
You would think that you were walking into a cafe in Paris along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées when you step into the very contemporary C. C Violin Patisserie & Cafe in Ambleside.
With all of the products being made in house from scratch, the cafe is filled with rich aromas that will make anyone who wasn't originally hungry feel quite famished.
Whether it is stopping by for an authentic French pastry and espresso, or taking time during lunch to feast on the various fresh sandwiches, salads or quiche, C. C Violin will make sure your taste buds are satisfied.
Located in the heart of Ambleside at 1564 Marine Drive, this cafe is a must to check out if you haven't already. More information can be found by going to their website below. Au revoir.
Daikichi team including second from right (Stella Lin) and far right (David Liu).
If you are in the mood for some of the freshest sushi in the city, look no further than Daikichi Sushi in Ambleside.
David Liu and his family have owned the restaurant for 7 years located at 1739 Marine Drive, West Vancouver. He brings an infectious energy to the restaurant and really makes you feel at home.
I frequent Daikichi often and generally order the same items, but this time the exceptionally talented Stella Lin or "Itamae" (skilled sushi chef) whipped up a couple rolls which were out-of-this-world. The Golden California Roll was topped with fresh Salmon and salad dressing sauce...it was very refreshing and flavorful. Stella's favorite, The Sakura Roll, had seared Ahi Tuna on the outside and deep fried tuna in the inside. Both were some of the best sushi rolls I have ever tasted.
Whether it be lunch or dinner, Daikichi offers a great selection of fresh sushi as well as some very reasonable Specials.
Golden California Roll and Asahi Beer...delicious combo!
Yet another sunny day in beautiful West Vancouver and time to take advantage of one of the hidden gems that this community has to offer. The Salmon House is an award winning restaurant (2013 OpenTable.com Diner's Choice Award Winner) with unobstructed panoramic views of Vancouver and the Burrard Inlet that will blow you away!
The food is exceptional and though perhaps obvious, my favorite dish is the Alder Grilled BC Spring Salmon; grilled to perfection by Executive Chef Mario Fortin.
Open since 1976, many people are unaware this wonderful restaurant is just north of Exit #10 waiting for your arrival. An excellent place to enjoy a glass of wine, dinner, or even weekend brunch, please go to their website below to make your reservation today.
Owner Matt Giannakos is about to start making me one of his famous Cafe Lattes.
When seeking out the perfect coffee shop people are generally looking for: (1) great coffee, (2) freshly baked in-house goods, (3) a friendly and outgoing staff and (4) a prime location. Cafe Crema is batting 4 for 4 and even more!
Matt Giannakos and his family have owned Cafe Crema located on the corner of 15th St and Bellevue Ave for 6 years. While his brothers work at their other great Cafe (Revolver in Gastown) and his parents are back and forth, Matt is forced to have a view of the ocean on a daily basis! There is a loyal customer base at Crema and many sit on the patio to sip their tasty beverages, or choose to get one to-go and walk along the seawall which is literally across the street.
While my go-to morning order is a Cafe Latte (delicious), the signature coffee according to Matt and his lovely staff is the Cafe Crema. When paired with their most popular in-house baked good (blueberry muffin) you are sure to get your day off to a great start.
If you are a VIP (or like to think you are), try ordering "The Gibralter" which is something that is not on the menu but sure to make you feel like a rock star. And, if you go to Cafe Crema enough times they may even name a drink after you which is the case when ordering "The Super Sara" aptly named after Dr. Sara Kinnon, owner of Bellevue Natural Health Clinic!
Whether it be breakfast, lunch, or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, give Cafe Crema a try...you'll love it. Make it a great day everyone and please go to the links below for more information on both Giannakos locations.
Somehow the weather has turned and it feels like winter....never fear Bean Around the World Coffees is here!

Cupcakes Park Royal is a great place to pickup goodies for: birthdays, events, baby showers, weddings and even stagettes!

If you are looking for world-class Italian food right here in West Vancouver, make a point of visiting Mangia E Bevi Ristorante in Dundarave!
It is amazing how many locals you meet who without fail will ask if you have been to Mangia E Bevi. There is a sense of pride in how unbelievable this restaurant is...and it really is that good. This is not a food critic blog, rather, a way of promoting local businesses, events and attractions, but having traveled all over Italy myself and having been to countless top-of-the-line Italian restaurants around the world, Mangia E Bevi serves some of the most delicious Italian dishes that you will ever taste.
The menu can be found on the website link below and has something for everyone. My favorite Caprese Di Bufala salad to start followed by a wide variety of main courses....yummy!
Finally, Mangia E Bevi is a great place for group events (corporate, birthdays etc) so whether it is a romantic dinner for two or a large family get together, be sure to make a reservation and prepare to feast on some of the freshest and flavourful Italian food you will ever taste. Ciao.
People who stop into Savary Island Pie Company for a latte, lunch and carrot cake generally have no idea of the hardships that faced the original founder, Eileen Walkem-Hall.
Having spent years trying to make ends meet, essentially penniless on Bowen Island, Eileen started selling pies, muffins and cinnamon buns at the Cypress Bowl cafeteria during ski season. From there, she rented a small space on Marine and 25th and her reputation started to take shape. Finally, on April 17, 1989 she opened Savary Island Pie Co. on Marine Drive between 15th and 16th where you will see it today.
Like most successful small businesses, they take a ton of hard work and sacrifice in order to not only get off of the ground, but stay prosperous. Having the community support these businesses is key to the long-term success of West Vancouver and will give confidence to other entrepreneurs thinking of starting a new business.
If you are thinking of finally making the jump and working for yourself as opposed to someone else, what better place to sit back, enjoy a wonderful meal and be at one with your thoughts than Savary Island.

The Boathouse is well know as a franchise for its great seafood and amazing locations. The Horsehoe Bay location is no different as it is perched above Sewell's Marina just west of Horseshoe Bay Park and the BC Ferrries Terminal.
This is a great spot to grab a quick drink and appetizer if you are waiting for the ferry; a lovely way to spend an afternoon on the patio sipping mojito's and cold beers; or a fun place to bring a group of friends and family to enjoy a great night out...no matter what the occasion may be.
As someone who used to work for The Boathouse many years ago, it is the service of the staff that has people coming back over and over again! If you haven't been to the Horseshoe Bay location in sometime (or ever), I'd recommend making a reservation which can be performed online by clicking on the below link.
Finally, my go-to move for dinner is usually:
- 6 kusshi oysters
- sirloin and 8oz lobster tail (I upgrade to the NY Steak)
After a million dollar plus renovation, The Red Lion Bar & Grill was opened on St. Patricks Day in 2004 (naturally). Located between 24th and 25th on the north side of Marine Drive, you will notice The Red Lion quickly this time of year as the patio is packed all hours of the day! The patio is a great place to not only people watch, but the cars that roll by are out of this world! You will see supercars such as Ferrari's, Porsche's, Lamborghini's as well as classic Vintage cars.
The restaurant itself is very authentic, with excellent pub style food as well as cold beer on tap. There are afternoon specials and the staff is warm, friendly and I found them to be excellent servers. While the patio is upbeat, the customer base is very respectful and you will have a fun experience.
Whether you come in for lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch or simply need a cold beverage after walking along the seawall (location is 2 blocks from the waters edge), The Red Lion Bar & Grill in Dundarave is a lively spot to do so.
Below is a link to their website as well as a map.
The COFFEEBAR has now been open for two months on the corner of Marine Drive and 17th Street in Ambleside.
Owners Ivan and Raj have added a second store to their successful Gastown location and are hopeful that the local West Vancouver residents enjoy the Montreal influenced store with hints of Dubai. A very cool fusion of these two wonderful cities has taken place so if you haven't been to either, you'll want to stop by.
The COFFEEBAR is great spot to grab an espresso, refreshment, wrap or a delicious freshly baked good.
My wife and I met with The Truffle House & Cafe owner Fabienne Chaber yesterday for yet another wonderful meal at this trendy new restaurant in the heart of the Dundarave Village.
Fabienne and her family moved from France to live in the most beautiful place in the world. Her warm and inviting personality shines thru and it keeps guests not only coming back for more, but telling their friends and family what a wonderful place The Truffle House & Cafe is to have brunch, lunch, or dinner.
This lovely 40 seat restaurant is described as a "restaurant, coffee shop, caterer, boutique and even art gallery." Executive Chef James Hodgins has infused French, Italian and West Coast into a flavorful blend of wonderfully delicous dishes. Fabienne likes to keep the menu fresh and as such, new items will appear on all menus in early May!
Our lunch consisted of a delicate Ham and Egg Crepe and delicious Chicken & Fig Panini with a fresh garden salad. The dessert special of the day was an unbelievable Grand Marnier Creme Brulee that was paired with Van Gogh Espresso Vodka.
If you are looking for a trendy new restaurant with excellent service and even better food, I highly recommend checking out The Truffle House & Cafe located at 2452 Marine Drive. Below is the link to their website as well as a map for your convenience.
The Beach House Restaurant & Lounge is located at the foot of the Dundarave Pier in West Vancouver. This spectacular restaurant offers up one of the most amazing combinations of wide angle views and delicious food that you will ever experience.
I had a wonderful dinner last night as the table enjoyed Fish Taco's, Seafood Linguini and Fish & Chips. As the sun dipped below the waters edge we finished our meal while enjoying a breathtaking sunset.
The servers are delightful and why wouldn't they be working at a location that is literally on the beach. The patio will be open soon for the summer months and enjoying a couple Caesar's and Brunch on Sunday is an absolute must.
There is more information about The Beach House Restaurant & Lounge in the link below, and to get there you turn south on 25th Street off of Marine Drive.
Before or after your scenic walk along the Seawall between Dundarave and Ambleside, stop in at one of the two wonderful Delany's Coffee Houses in West Vancouver.
Delany's is a warm and inviting Coffee House with delicious food, excellent coffee and most important, friendly service. A great place to curl up with a good book on a stormy day, or take in the sunshine on one of two patio's at the Dundarave location.
This is a wonderful family run business who give back to the community. I highly recommend stopping by if you have not already.
